Cooperation, collaboration…

2008 is an eventful year for family medicine and primary health care in Malaysia. The FRACGP has just been accepted for inclusion in the National Specialist Register. In April, the National Primary Health Care Conference was successfully held. This conference was jointly organised by several organisations, including the Family Health Development Division (Ministry of Health), Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (AFPM), and Family Medicine Specialist Association (FMSA).

Beginning 2008, Malaysian Family Physician (MFP) will be official journals of both AFPM and FMSA. We hope this joint venture will take all the stakeholders from cooperation to collaboration and beyond. The Editorial Board of MFP is now expanded. We wish to welcome Dr Safurah Jaafar, the Director of Family Health Development Division, as another advisor of MFP. Two more FMS, Associate Professor Dr Shaiful Bahari Ismail and Dr Lee Ping Yein, have also joined as Editorial Members, bringing the representation from FMSA to four.

The cover of this issue captures the beginning of this synergy. Let us all work together to enhance the value of family medicine and primary health care for all Malaysians.

Open Access

MFP has been open access since the inaugural issue in 2006. Late last year, we were informed by Elsevier that we have been included in their SCOPUS and EMCARE databases. It is unlikely that most of us will notice this as these are subscription-based databases. More significantly, all the articles in MFP are now accessible directly from computer by just clicking the links in Google Scholar and Directory of Open Access Journals (www.doaj.org). The open access nature of MFP has truly taken us beyond the shores of Malaysia; recently we are gratified to received inquiries from United Kingdom, Iran and Pakistan. Our web statistics showed that MFP has >1000 hits per weeks. We are working with our webmaster to further improve the web statistics and its interpretations.

CORRECTION

We apologise for a typographical error on the cover of Malaysian Family Physician 2007 Volume 2 Number 3 issue. The caption "Imaging in tuberculosis" should have been "Imaging in appendicitis".
The cover caption refers to the following paper:
Wijesuriya LI. Imaging as an aid to the diagnosis of acute appendicitis. Malaysian Family Physician. 2007;2(3):106-9

The online cover has been corrected. See http://www.ejournal.afpm.org.my/
