Medical care has been credited for the health improvements within societies; this is the direct result of the implementation of research findings at the national and international level. Promoting research activities, especially those that result in wider application and beneficial impact in healthcare, has always been the priority of the Ministry of Health. For the researchers working in Malaysian primary care, identifying the literature base in this discipline can be frustrating. This is due to the relatively small amount of research output, but more importantly, many publications in this discipline are not easily accessible. It is thus gratifying to note that Professor Khoo and her colleagues have taken on the task of collating both clinical and non-clinical research conducted in the primary care setting for the benefit of researchers and health planners. I understand that this book is the culmination of a three-year effort – an onerous task through both electronic and manual search of journals, monographs, reports, dissertations, conference proceedings, abstracts, and books. It is possible that some relevant research papers may still be missed, since the period of coverage is between 1966 and 2003. Nonetheless, this is a good start and such effort should be encouraged. It is also a credit to the team that the electronic version of this book is now freely available on the internet.
