Family Practice– The Main Stay of Patient Care
In a report “Family Medicine in Canada : Vision for the Future”, 80% of Canadians prefer to access healthcare through their family physicians. More than 80% say the quality of care given by family physicians is good to excellent.
Many other reports have also stamped general practice/family medicine as providing the most affordable, cost effective and safest way of first contact into the healthcare delivery system.
Family Medicine is patient-centered care, in contrast to other disease-centered disciplines. The Family Physician is specially trained on diagnostic skills and decision making. He makes appropriate referrals and obtains feedback from the specialist colleagues to take care of the patient as a whole.
He advocates preventive care & health education for the family. He recognizes the influence of culture and religion on his patients, with love and understanding. He contributes to community projects.
There is no compromise in acquiring the core knowledge necessary to accomplish this role for the care of the patient.
The DFM & The Advance Training Programme Course are for these purposes.
